Burning Beard by Rachel Pollack

19″ necklace with black onyx, green onyx, aventurine, and carnelian beads with a black onyx pendant and a sterling silver catch. Click the images for hi-res versions.
This piece is the creation of Rachel Pollack, the author of “Burning Beard: the Dreams and Visions of Lord Joseph, Viceroy of Egypt”
From the author:
My story concerns the figure of Joseph in Genesis, the great diviner of Jewish mythology. In Israelite lore the tribal stone of Joseph (one of the twelve tribes of Israel) was onyx, a diviner’s stone for its depths and mystery. Carnelians are one of the primary stones of Egypt, Joseph’s adopted home for most of his life. Aventurine is used for luck (gamblers wear it–gambling and divination are related), but also for healing.
This necklace has been consecrated for luck, health, and wisdom. There may be faint traces of essential oil on the back of the pendant, along with minute grains of High John the Conqueror powder. If such residues remain they will quickly wear off.
Opening Bid: $35 USD
Shipping: $4.50 in the US, International shipping rates will be calculated based on the winner’s location.

Like A Heavy Dream by Mia Nutick

1.75″ pendant on a 13.5″ cord, mixed media on ceramic.
Based on “A Dirge For Prester John” by Catherynne M. Valente
From the artist:
I am a writer, editor, and sometime maker of shiny things. Once upon a time I realized that I had a pile of old dilapidated books of fairy tales with yellowed edges and pages falling away, and I hated to see these old books go to waste. I decided to make some collages using bits of the pages, and in cutting out words and phrases I happened upon the idea of making new poems and thoughts out of old fairy tale and mythic imagery. I wanted to make little poems into adornments for those who love the written word. I called these pieces Chimera Fancies — little pieces of altered art, old storybooks and glitter, fragments of dreams and mysterious messages from the Universe.
Opening Bid: $10 USD
Shipping: $4.50 in the US, International shipping rates will be calculated based on the winner’s location.

Timothy Set by Sarah Evans

Earrings: Silver wire and seed beads on stainless steel hooks; Choker and Bracelet: Freshwater pearls, silver wire beaded “whiskers”, and red frosted-glass cats’ tongues sewn onto black velvet ribbons. The bracelet is 7″, the choker is 14.5″ expandable up to 16.5″. Click the images for hi-res versions.
Based on “Timothy” by Colin Greenland
From the artist:
I made this set hoping to tie in a visual image of Timothy himself…the cat, that is. Black velvet ribbon with spots of white–the pearls–are meant to be his coloring, and the curled wire his whiskers. The red beads sewn in there were originally red petals, which seemed appropriate at the time because so much of the story is looking out over the garden. But I like them because, when looked at the right way, they also resemble cats’ tongues. The red charm in the middle of the choker with black lace stretched over it represents all the cloaked passion in this enchanting story. Also, regarding the earrings: I used many colors there instead of just red to reference Timothy’s seeing color for the first time. (The earrings are also whiskers.)
Opening Bid: $25 USD
Shipping: $4.50 in the US, International shipping rates will be calculated based on the winner’s location.

Willow Pattern by Elise Matthesen

Wirework pendant on an approx. 18″ rubber cord.
Based on “Willow Pattern” by Jon Singer
From the artist:
The piece of broken china is indeed Willow Pattern, and I found the piece years ago in a hedgerow in Ireland in the Wicklow Hills, outside the home of Diane Duane and Peter Morwood. The various beads came to me from unlikely sources: broken jewelry, leftovers from friends, or in the case of the little dangling pendant piece, something found run over in the street. I thought that was particularly appropriate for this piece, given the story’s exploration of deterioration and change. The chain that dangles from the pendant’s sterling silver wirework is a corroded chain from a box of old jewelry.
Please be aware that this chain may leave marks if worn on light-colored clothing. This, too, is in keeping with the theme of the story: it may mark you to wear this piece. Be aware of that, please. I do not know if the corrosion will rub off. I do not know if the story will do to you what it has done to me: disquiet me, delight me, frighten me, fascinate me. I have saved that bit of Willow Pattern china for years, waiting for the right thing to do with the broken bit. I think this necklace is it. I put the whole thing on a cord of black rubber, because I like the contrast between the scientifictional rubber tubing and the fantastical silver wirework.
Opening Bid: $40 USD
Shipping: $4.50 in the US, International shipping rates will be calculated based on the winner’s location.

And Then She Flew by Deborah J Brannon

20″ necklace, fancy jasper, Australian jasper, jet glass, wooden beads, sterling silver, wooden feather.
Based on “Black Feather” by K Tempest Bradford
From the artist:
This story is inarguably interstitial: is it a re-imagined fairy tale? A dream story? Magical realism? I can’t say for sure. Yet it is most certainly a tale of the Wood, for all that therein the Wood exists only in dreams and one small wooded park in an obscure corner of Manhattan. In this wood is a hill and, at the top of this hill, is a cave. The Wood, the hill, the cave, the sky: compelling elemental presences evoking the Hanged Man, the lost girl, the ravens, and what redemption we can find. These were the threads that asked to be woven in wood and glass, semi-precious stone and gleaming metal. I like to believe that I gave Tempest’s story another method of flight.
Opening Bid: $15 USD
Shipping: $4.50 in the US, International shipping rates will be calculated based on the winner’s location.
