Burning Beard Detail

Burning Beard by Rachel Pollack

Burning Beard by Rachel Pollack

19″ necklace with black onyx, green onyx, aventurine, and carnelian beads with a black onyx pendant and a sterling silver catch. Click the images for hi-res versions.

This piece is the creation of Rachel Pollack, the author of “Burning Beard: the Dreams and Visions of Lord Joseph, Viceroy of Egypt

My story concerns the figure of Joseph in Genesis, the great diviner of Jewish mythology. In Israelite lore the tribal stone of Joseph (one of the twelve tribes of Israel) was onyx, a diviner’s stone for its depths and mystery. Carnelians are one of the primary stones of Egypt, Joseph’s adopted home for most of his life. Aventurine is used for luck (gamblers wear it–gambling and divination are related), but also for healing.

This necklace has been consecrated for luck, health, and wisdom. There may be faint traces of essential oil on the back of the pendant, along with minute grains of High John the Conqueror powder. If such residues remain they will quickly wear off.
