“My father's oldest brother was at the age when little boys fall in love with war. In the family's rush to get downstairs, no one noticed that he had brought his favorite hat into the basement, the one that superficially resembled the square czapka with the scarlet band of the Zandarmeria, the Polish Military Police. When the gun shots, the screams, and the smoke had cleared, the Germans discovered that their fugitive Polish soldier was just a ten year old boy.” From: Count Poniatowski and the Beautiful Chicken by Elizabeth Ziemska
The Interstitial Arts Foundation would like to thank the following artists for donating their amazing, beautiful, and deeply meaningful art to the auction. Each one of these individuals gave of themselves to help support interstitial art and to celebrate interstitial fiction. In return, we’re celebrating them.
Please click the links below to visit the websites, galleries or shops of the participating artists — what you saw here was only a sliver of their work. If you missed out on an auction item that you loved you may find something similar or completely different that you love even more. Some may even take commissions.
The 2009 Interfictions 2 auction is now over. Thanks to everyone who donated art, who bid on the art, who spread the word about the art, and in any way supported this effort. This website will be moving into hiatus mode in just a little while, but you will still be able to see all of the photos, descriptions, artist’s statements and links. And, of course, the art and artists continue to thrive at the Interstitial Arts Foundation’s website. Keep an eye on the blog there for more auctions, galleries, shows, anthologies and more.
Oh, and don’t forget, you can still snag a print of Connie Toebe’s artwork here.
Today is the last day to bid on the final pieces in the Interfictions 2 auction. Auctions will start to close around noon eastern and finish up around 7PM eastern. Don’t miss out on these beautiful pieces of art, clothing, jewelry, and papercraft. Here’s a handy list of everything available today in the order auctions will end. Click and bid!
As the auction winds down, we thought it would be nice to end with a special offer. Artist Connie Toebe, who donated the wonderful box art based on The Child Empress of Mars, is a long-time friend of the Interstitial Arts Foundation and of Interfictions. Her art (titled: Moonlight) graces the cover of the first Interfictionsvolume, and we have some signed prints of this art in our possession.
There are five 11 x 17 prints available for sale for $25 each. (Click the image to enlarge.)
The first week of December has arrived and that means it’s the last week of the auction. The final pieces will go live later today and tomorrow and we’re ending all auctions on December 7th around noon eastern time. It will be your last chance to scoop up this amazing art, jewelry and clothing — as we’ve said before, they each make great holiday gifts.
We’ve extended a few auctions to run until the 7th, so here’s a list of the art you can still bid on until Monday (excluding the pieces that haven’t yet gone live):
So you’ve either spent the morning wrestling people for low-priced gadgets or stayed up all night refreshing your favorite sites hoping to catch the best deals. Now that you’ve recovered, spend the rest of your Black Friday and holiday money here.
Listen up fans of the Interfictions Auction, we’re giving free copies of the groundbreaking Interfictions 2 anthology to three lucky people. Now you’ll be able to read even more of the amazing fiction these beautiful pieces of art are based on. There are a few rules.
1. Recipients of the anthologies promise to post a review of the book on their blogs/websites. It need not be a professional-level review, just tell the world what you think of the anthology as a whole, which are your favorite stories, that kind of thing.
3. To enter, post one comment in this post for each of the places you mentioned your favorite pieces. So if you posted on your blog and on Twitter, make two comments. Blog and Twitter and FriendFeed? Three comments. Include links to the mentions so we can see and get excited. If you posted on Facebook and can’t link directly to it, just say so, we trust you! You get one entry for every mention, so the more you talk about the auction, the more chances you have to win. One week from today we’ll pick three winners via random number generator. Don’t forget to give us a valid email in the comment form. No one can see it but the admins and we’ll use it to contact you if you win.
Easy, right? So click here to find your favorite piece of art and spread it around!
If you’ve been peeking into the Interstitial Arts Foundation’s Flickr account, you may have noticed images of all the lovely art and jewelry coming up. First, take a look at all of the pieces we’ve recieved for the auction. Click the thumbnails for bigger pictures and descriptions or just hover for their titles:
It’s all very tempting, we know. The images in the gallery above are arranged in order of bidding start date, so it includes the few pieces whose auctions have ended. As to the others, we’ve listed the dates you can start bidding on them below. We may have a few extra pieces at the end, but this list represents the schedule of what we have on hand right now:
The first week of the auction is coming to an end. The first auction closes tomorrow, so get your bids in now. The price is still shockingly low! As always, we’ll have auctions going live every day next week. Check the gallery below to see a preview of some of the items.
This week also marked the official publication date of the anthology we’re all here to celebrate: Interfictions 2 You can now buy the book from major retailers, discriminating indie bookstores, and online outfits like Amazon.com and Powells.com. If ebooks are your thing, head over to the publisher’s website to purchase an electronic copy.
Along with Interfictions 2: The Book! you can also read eight amazing interstitial stories in the Interfictions Annex (for free). Artists based their creations on stories from the book and the annex, so you should definitely check them out.
Now that the book is out, Interfictions authors are starting to give reading, including very odd and wonderful interstitial collaborations of words and music. Last night was the first. Check out this YouTube playlist of the performances:
